Stearic acid of 100% vegetable origin, obtained from the hydrogenation of palm oil and its subsequent refining.
It has a melting point of 54 – 56 º C.
As in the manufacture of soap, vegetable stearic acid is used in the manufacture of candles for several reasons:
- It helps the wax melt more evenly, the candle will burn more evenly and last longer.
- Vegetable stearic acid is very versatile and is used as an emulsifier, thickening agent and stabilizer in natural cosmetics.
- It acts as a hardening agent, making the candle hold its shape and not melt too quickly.
- If used alone, it achieves the crystal effect so characteristic of stearin candles.
- It can be mixed with kerosene, as an additive to improve the finish of the candles.
